Very private, secluded and remote location right on the Oldman River near the junction of Honeymoon Creek.
Equestrian facilities are available, great for family reunions, friends get togethers, weddings, etc., enclosed shelter with wood stove, common fire pit, 14 horse stable, wood sales (must be ordered), clean quiet camping with locking gate.


Little Elbow Equestrian

Fee: $29.00/night; $2.00 discount for 2nd unit on campsite; $2.00/night senior discount; price includes fee for 2 horses; $6.00/night each additional horse; non-refundable $12.00 reservation fee; 24 campsites available for reservation. Reservations for the 2012 season begin February 21, 2012.

␣ 50 km west of Bragg Creek along Hwy. 66 ␣ 46-unit parking lot ␣ hitching rails; corrals; loading/unloading ramp ␣- review- This is a great little equestrian campground located at the end of the paved section of highway 66 west of Calgary in the Little Elbow Provincial Recreation Area. It is nestled in Kananaskis country and right by the Elbow River. This campground is located right before Little Elbow Campground and is well marked. There are 24 campsites available for reservation of the 46 total campsites available. I would imagine the first come first serve sites fill up quickly on long weekends because of the close proximity to Calgary, so get out there early.

Mesa Butte Equestrian

Rock Lake Provincial Recreation Area
␣ 7 km west of Hinton on Hwy. 16, 40 km northwest on Forestry Trunk Road (Hwy. 40), then 35 km west on access road␣ 93-unit campground; 50-unit parking lot ␣ primary staging area for Willmore Wilderness Park, which contains approximately 750 km of equestrian/hiking trails ␣ loading/unloading ramps; hitching rails; corrals; holding pens ␣ $16.00/night


Sandy McNabb Campground -
Sheep River Provincial Park
␣ 25 km west of Turner Valley along SH 546 ␣ 21-unit campground ␣ hitching rails; corrals; loading/unloading ramp ␣ $23 to $35 per night (fee includes 2 horses; $5.00 each additional horse) ␣ firewood concession- Sandy McNabb Campground has recently been upgraded so I will have to go there this year and check out what is new. The campground is located about 25km west of Turner Valley down highway 546 in Sheep River Provincial Park. According to the sources online I was able to find out that they now have running water including flush toilets, showers and even a dump station for you RV folks out there. This campground is right on the Sheep River and there is a nice little area to wade into and cool off on those hot days. There are now 111 sites available, all with electrical hookups.


Strawberry Provincial Recreation Area- Strawberry Equestrian

Fee: Equestrian sites $29.00/night; regular sites $23.00/night; $2.00/night discount for 2nd unit on campsite; $2.00/night senior discount; price includes fee for 2 horses; $6.00/night each additional horse; open from early September until the end of November; natural source drinking water; nearest sewage disposal station & pay phone located at Highwood House.. 45 km southwest of Longview on SH 541, then 2 km north on Hwy. 40 ␣ 18-unit campground ␣ hitching rails; corrals; loading/unloading ramp ␣
␣ firewood concession ␣ open during hunting season only (September 4 - November 30)


Sulphur Gates Provincial Recreation Area
Sulphur Gates is a staging area for equestrian users & backpackers going into Willmore Wilderness Park. Willmore contains more than 750 km of equestrian/hiking trails. In addition to horse corrals and hitching rails, the site is equipped with a water trough.␣ 5 km north & 7 km west of Grande Cache off Hwy. 40 ␣ 11-unit campground ␣ staging area for Willmore Wilderness Park (approximately 750 km equestrian/hiking trails) ␣ loading/unloading ramp; hitching rails; horse holding area; water trough ␣ $23.00/night Click here for trail map and more info for photos and more info of campsite click here


Whitehorse Creek Provincial Recreation Area -Whitehorse Creek PRA is located on the northeastern boundary of Whitehorse Wildland Park. It provides basic camping facilities, hitching rails & loading ramps for equestrian users (eight campsites have corrals). The site provides access to the unmaintained hiking/equestrian trail to Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park. If you are planning to camp overnight in the backcountry in Jasper National Park, a permit is required (Jasper trails office: 780-852-6177).
Whitehorse Creek campground is accessible from Cadomin (no winter road maintenance). Grave Flats Road (also known as Cardinal River Road) through the Cardinal Divide in Whitehorse Wildland Park is open during the summer. Information on the adjacent Cheviot Mines project is available at 1-866-306-9886.

Prairie Creek Provincial Recreation Area

Ram Falls Provincial Recreation Area

␣ 64 km south of Nordegg on Forestry Trunk Road (SH 734); 96 km southwest of Rocky Mountain House
␣ 54-unit campground ␣ $25.00/night; group camping (call for info) (for group reservations, call 403-845-6474) ␣ firewood concession- Bighorn sheep can be seen on the slopes of the 2850-metre Ram Range throughout the year—often near Ram Falls, where the river plunges 20 metres over a thin layer of hard sandstone. Elk can often be seen directly across the road from the campsite, grazing on grass along an old airstrip.


Seven Mile Provincial Recreation Area
␣ 48 km sw of Caroline ␣ 36-unit campground; 15-unit parking lot ␣ $25.00/night- This recreation area is located on Seven Mile Flats along the Clearwater River, just a few kilometres north of Corkscrew Mountain. The area is well known for its elk population.- 403-845-9275

Places to overnight your horse in Alberta

Silver Sage Community Corral- The Silver Sage Community Corral is a multi-purpose agricultural grounds and indoor riding facility in the heart of Southern Alberta. The main building features a 100 X 185 heated riding arena and is equipped with arena level concession, spectator seating, ample display area and heated wash racks. A second floor viewing area and lounge is also available. Our facility is wheelchair accessible, with full bathrooms complete with showers for overnight patrons.- The Silver Sage grounds are located just 2.5 kms south of the City of Brooks, easily accessible from the #1 Trans Canada Highway and Highway 36.
