Thank you Doris and Richard Mcadie of Surrey BC for sending this info in.
Duffy Lake, is about 13 km. up the Greenstone Road going south by Cherry Creek, between Kamloops and Savona. Veer right at the first junction and turn right at 12 km. and follow the signs to Duffy Lake. It is at 3800 meters, so can be cold at night. You can google it for more info.
It is a great place to ride, literally Hundreds of Kms. of old skid roads and trails to ride on. The bikers have made a lot of “Snowy Mountain.” trails joining a lot of the old skid roads, these are definitely not for horses, way too steep (straight up and down over the hills) and rutted in the centers.
The forestry camp is 50 plus campsites run by the Kamloops Mountain Bike Association, $10 per night on the weekends. We highlined, choosing a campsite at the far end of the camp. It is NOT Recommended for any Long weekend. During the week of July 7th there were only 6 or so campers. On the weekend, it is mostly mountain bikers and fishermen. Be prepared for them going through camp, just to check things out, but they were pretty courteous. But during the week, we did not meet any on the trails. Good GPS training. You can do a lot of loop rides, but need to be able to figure out the way back home. We put on over 70 kms. in 6 days of riding.
Lots of lakes, you can swim at Duffy Lake. Everything there is green, and lush grasses. It is only 8 or 9 kms. from Tunkwa Lake as the crow flies but totally different types of trees. I will send some more of the campsite.
